Council apprentice champions Career Pathways Scheme

Last year, we welcomed eight new apprentices as part of the Career Pathways Apprenticeship Programme, bringing our total number of apprentices to 19.

Now in its fourth year, the apprenticeship programme provides opportunities for anyone interested in upskilling, reskilling, changing their career path or trying something new.

The programme also offers participants the opportunity to work in a diverse, dynamic and multifaceted organisation, with opportunities in sports and leisure, tourism, marketing, events, parks and amenities, facilities, greenkeeping, horticulture, IT and communities.

In partnership with South Eastern Regional College (SERC), Belfast Met and the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise (CAFRE), the Council offers Level 2, Level 3 and Higher Level paid apprenticeships across the organisation, allowing successful applicants to ‘earn while they learn’ while completing their qualifications.

Our current Marketing Apprentice, Sarah Welsh, recently won the Public Sector Apprentice of the Year Award. We’re incredibly proud of Sarah’s achievements and congratulate her on this well-deserved recognition.

Reflecting on her apprenticeship experience, Sarah said: "Being part of the apprenticeship programme has been an incredible opportunity. I’ve gained hands-on experience in marketing, while working in a sector I’m passionate about. The support from my mentors and colleagues has been invaluable and I’ve learned so much that will benefit my future career."

We will soon be on the lookout for another intake of apprentices, with a new scheme scheduled to launch later this year.
