Commemorate VJ Day 80

Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council will host a special commemoration event on Friday 15th August 2025 to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day, a pivotal moment in history that brought World War II to an end. The event will also include the annual National Malaya and Borneo Veterans Association (NMBVA) wreath-laying ceremony, paying tribute to the extraordinary bravery and sacrifice of those who served in Singapore during WW2.

The event will consist of a public parade and outdoor service at Lagan Valley Island, honouring those who served in the Far East, including local war hero and medical pioneer - Professor Frank Pantridge.

Residents are invited to attend as we reflect on the sacrifices of the past and honour the legacy of our veterans. Further details will be shared in due course.
