Mayor’s Welcome
Mayor’s Welcome
Welcome to the latest edition of CityWide. As we head into the summer, I am delighted to bring you news of our packed summer schemes which will run throughout July and August 2024. Getting young people outdoors and active greatly improves their physical and mental health. Places fill up quickly so click here to find out how to book.
I also encourage everyone to get involved in this year’s Park Life; an exciting, free programme of family fun and entertainment on your doorstep. Here you can find out all you need to know. And don’t forget to add 23-24 October to your calendar for enchanting Halloween fun in Wallace Park. With fireworks and laser lights this is not to be missed.
As my Mayoral term comes to an end very soon, I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your support and kindness over the last 12 months. It has been my privilege to serve as Mayor of Lisburn and Castlereagh.
As I think about the many people and local groups I have met, I am reminded of why being a Councillor is so important to me. To see the faces of the young people from Beechlawn, Parkview, Longstone and Tor Bank schools at our recent ‘Mayor’s Sports Day’ was a truly memorable moment. And raising awareness and funds for Cancer Fund for Children has been both humbling and rewarding as I spent time with little Grace Deery and Young Ollie Montgomery who have bravely faced their own cancer journeys.
In my last week as Mayor, I will be leading a full day of commemorations for D-Day 80 on 6 June, as we remember those who risked their lives for freedom and peace. Join me in Castle Gardens as we light the D-Day 80 beacon with performances from the Band of the Royal Irish Regiment, local schools and more. Details here.
It’s been an honour to serve you as Mayor. Thank you.
