The Council is proud to be supporting Food Waste Action Week (18-24 March 2024).
All week we will be encouraging you to ‘Choose What You’ll Use’ by buying your fruit and vegetables loose, instead of packaged, to reduce food waste.
Councillor Caleb McCready, Chair of the Council's Environment and Sustainability Committee, said: “Buying loose reduces food waste – research by the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) has shown that if all apples, bananas and potatoes in the UK were sold loose, we could save 70,000 tonnes of food waste by enabling people to buy closer to their needs.”
“If it’s been a while since you last bought your fruit and veg loose, why not give it a try during Food Waste Action Week? You’ll be surprised at how easy it is to reduce your food waste and save money.”
Follow us on our social media channels as we highlight the benefits of buying loose and share some simple ways to minimise food waste.
