Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council's Labour Market Partnership (LMP) is set to launch a new careers event aimed at inspiring young people to explore opportunities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
STEM in Action: Lisburn & Castlereagh will take place on Tuesday 13 October 2026 at Lagan Valley Island, bringing together students, employers, universities, colleges and training providers for an immersive and interactive careers experience.
Labour Market Partnerships, which create targeted employment action plans for council areas, are funded by the Department for Communities, and allow for collaboration at local and regional level to support people towards and into work.
Designed for Year 12 to Upper Sixth students, the event will feature four dedicated zones, including live STEM demonstrations from Mark the Science Guy, an interactive space experience delivered by Armagh Planetarium, opportunities to engage directly with employers and educators, and a hands-on STEM challenge designed to develop teamwork and problem-solving skills.
Students will also take part in a STEM Passport challenge, encouraging them to engage with all aspects of the event while learning more about future career pathways.
Participating organisations include Ulster University, South Eastern Regional College (SERC), Construction Futures, Armagh Planetarium, On Track Technicians, Leckey, Consarc, Creative Composites, SONI and Graham.
Chair of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council's Regeneration and Growth Committee, Alderman James Baird, said: "STEM in Action has been designed to give young people a real insight into the exciting opportunities available within STEM industries.
"By bringing together employers, educators and industry professionals in an engaging and interactive environment, we hope to inspire students to explore the many pathways available to them and help them make informed decisions about their future careers."
