The Mayor’s Community Awards are back - and with five categories to choose from, Lisburn and Castlereagh residents are being urged to nominate the most deserving stars in their local area.
Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council (LCCC), Councillor Andrew Gowan, said: “The fantastic voluntary and community work taking place across the council is something I am extremely passionate about. It is important to recognise the effort individuals make when playing their part in our community, which is why I am looking forward to hosting The Mayor’s Community Awards this year.
“The people of Lisburn and Castlereagh are known for the dedicated and the selfless ways they serve their communities. These awards allow us to showcase the outstanding work that is being carried out for the benefit of others and recognise those who are an inspiration to the rest of us in promoting real community spirit.
“If you know an individual or group who has made a positive impact on the local area by organising local projects, engaging in fundraising or providing support to individuals, please nominate them so that we can show our appreciation and thanks.”
The Mayor concluded: “This is your chance to tell us all about that incredible person or group that’s making a huge difference. These awards are a great opportunity to share some good news stories so please help us in our search and get nominating!”
Councillor Thomas Beckett, Chair of LCCC’s Communities and Wellbeing Committee, added: “We have great partners that help us deliver this initiative – and thanks is due to the Education Authority, the South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust and Volunteer Now.
“Everyone should be appreciated for what they do. And we need to know and understand more about the many wonderful and varied projects that are happening in our local communities – some are taking place that we know little or nothing about.
“We are asking the public to help us highlight the remarkable things that are happening behind the scenes in Lisburn and Castlereagh by submitting a nomination today.”
The council is inviting nominations for five award categories. These are:
- Brian McDowell Volunteer of the Year Award
- Youth Impact Award
- Community Champion Award
- Community Group Award
- Transforming Lives Award
The deadline for entries is Monday 8th January 2024 at 4pm. Finalists will be shortlisted and invited to a gala event held in Larchfield Estate in March 2024 where the winners will be announced.
