The Mayor, Alderman Amanda Grehan, has opened books of condolence to allow the people of Lisburn and Castlereagh to express their sympathy and condolences to the victims of the horrific attack at Bondi Beach, Sydney on Sunday 14 December 2025.
Opening the book, Mayor Grehan said:
“This brutal and shocking attack, which claimed the lives of innocent men, women and children attending a Hanukkah celebration, has deeply shaken communities far beyond Australia. Such violence is utterly indefensible and must be condemned without reservation.
“The events at Bondi Beach have caused immeasurable grief for families, friends and loved ones. Our thoughts are with all those who are mourning and we stand in solidarity with the people of Australia at this time of profound loss.
“Our thoughts are also with those who were injured, with the emergency services and with all who showed courage and compassion in the face of this terrible act.
“Violence and hatred seek to instil fear and division, but they will not prevail. Our hope is that communities may find strength in one another, that healing may begin and that peace will endure.
“Our prayers are with all those affected by this tragedy.”
