On behalf of everyone at Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council I would like to wish you a very Happy New Year. I hope you had a lovely Christmas and are refreshed and ready for the year ahead.
2024 has gotten off to a great start with a number of people from the Lisburn and Castlereagh Area recognised in the New Year Honours list. I am delighted to see them receive this prestigious recognition for the wonderful work they do.
I am looking forward to a busy year ahead visiting our communities and businesses as I continue to recognise the fantastic work that goes on across our area.
Nominations for the Mayor’s Community Awards 2024 are nearing the deadline. The awards ceremony in March is a key date in the council calendar and is our chance to highlight and reward some of our true heroes who are making such a difference in our communities every day. With so much good work going on, choosing the winners will be a real challenge for the panel.
The Mayor’s Carnival Parade and Family Fun Day is on track to take place in May. It’s set to be an amazing day out so keep an eye on social media for all the details so you can join the fun.
And of course, I will keep working to raise awareness of the fantastic work of the Cancer Fund for Children, my chosen charity. The work they do has such a positive impact on so many families who are facing the biggest challenges of their lives - dealing with cancer. Their mission is to ensure no child faces cancer alone. I have seen for myself the difference the charity makes on many visits to Daisy Lodge.
We have raised a lot of funds already and there are many more fundraising activities planned over the next six months to make as much money as possible for this worthy cause.
If you would like to help fundraise for my Mayoral Charity, there is no contribution too small. Get in touch with the Mayor’s Office. I would like to thank those who continue to support me and volunteer for the charity as I couldn’t do it alone.
I hope 2024 will be healthy and prosperous for all of you.
