Mayor Amanda welcomed volunteers from across Lisburn & Castlereagh to Lagan Valley Island to recognise and celebrate their hard work in carrying out litter picks throughout the council area. The event was an opportunity to thank those who give their time to help protect local neighbourhoods, parks, streets and open spaces, making a positive difference for residents and visitors alike.
Commenting at the event, Mayor Amanda said: “Our litter-picking volunteers make a real difference across Lisburn & Castlereagh. Their commitment, pride and community spirit help keep our local areas clean, welcoming and enjoyable for everyone. I want to sincerely thank each and every volunteer for the time and effort they give to protecting and improving our environment.”
Guests heard from speakers representing Live Here Love Here, NI Water and Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Sustainability Team, with the highlight speech of the evening delivered by volunteers from Keep Lisburn Tidy. Their contributions reflected the strong partnership approach that supports environmental volunteering across the council area and highlighted the important role volunteers play in tackling litter and improving local places.
The council would like to sincerely thank all of the volunteers who continue to organise and take part in litter picks across Lisburn & Castlereagh. Their commitment, community spirit and pride in the local area are helping to create cleaner, more attractive places for everyone to enjoy.
Residents who would like to get involved in volunteering and support litter-picking efforts in their area are encouraged to contact the councils Waste Management Team by emailing waste.education@lisburncastlereagh.gov.uk to request litter-pick equipment. By working together, local communities can continue to take positive action to care for the environment and help keep Lisburn & Castlereagh looking its best.
