Household Recycling Centres play a vital role in supporting residents to manage waste responsibly by encouraging recycling of unwanted materials. LCCC currently operates three centres at The Cutts, Carryduff, and a smaller site at Drumlough.
The existing Carryduff facility has been identified as aged and limited in its capacity to handle increasing visitor numbers, waste volumes and the expanding range of recycling requirements. To address this, the council is bringing forward plans for a modernised site that is more efficient and better equipped to meet future needs.
Proposed site improvements include better traffic management within the site, enhanced safety, upgraded facilities and improved sustainability features.
Alderman Owen Gawith, Chair of the Environment and Sustainability Committee, said: “This redevelopment represents an important step in ensuring our recycling services continue to meet the needs of residents now and in the future.
“Carryduff HRC has served the community well for many years. However, it is clear that improvements are needed to increase capacity, enhance safety and support higher recycling rates.
“We are keen to hear from local residents and stakeholders during this consultation period to help us shape a modern, sustainable facility that will benefit Carryduff and the wider Lisburn & Castlereagh area for years to come.”
Residents are invited to attend a public consultation event at Lough Moss Leisure Centre on Thursday 4th December, from 1pm to 7pm. At the event, the design team will present details of the proposed redevelopment, answer questions and take feedback in person.
You can also have your say by completing a feedback form available at Lough Moss Leisure Centre or click here.
The consultation will run from 26 November 2025 to 4 January 2026. All feedback will be considered before a planning application is submitted.
