Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council is celebrating International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) from 7th to 13th May.
As a ‘Thank You’ to our residents who recycle their food and garden waste, from Monday 8th May we will give residents who bring household items to recycle at any of our Household Recycling Centres one free bag of compost, while stocks last.
The Household Recycling Centres are located at:
- The Cutts - Derriaghy, BT17 9HN.
- Drumlough - Dromara Road, Hillsborough, BT26 6QA.
- Carryduff - 8 Comber Road, Carryduff, BT8 8AN.
This year’s ICAW theme is ‘For Healthier Soil, Healthier Food… Compost!’
The food and garden waste that you put in your brown bin is a valuable resource which is processed locally, by Natural World Products, into nutrient rich peat-free compost. This compost can then be used to enrich the soil and grow healthy and productive plants.
To make the best compost we need a good mix of materials. You can help by making sure to put the right materials in your brown bin. Find out more about what can be recycled in your brown bin or food waste caddy here.
