Preparations are well underway for Christmas in Lisburn and Castlereagh. The Mayor of Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Alderman Amanda Grehan has launched the council’s exciting programme of free, inclusive and affordable family fun. It offers something for everyone, with a range of free events for all ages right across the council area.
One of the biggest evenings in the social calendar is the Christmas Switch On event taking place on Thursday 20th November in Lisburn City Centre at 7.00pm.
Christmas is a time to look out for others. In Lisburn and Castlereagh, we work together to help others whether this is caring for a loved one, checking in on a neighbour or volunteering for a local group.
In keeping with Mayor Amanda’s theme – inclusion for disability and beyond’, our Switch On event will ensure young adults with disabilities are part of the event. It will be an evening to remember with Santa, singing, an Enchanted Walk and, of course the beginning of our spectacular Lisburn Light Festival.
Mayor Amanda, welcoming this year’s Christmas programme, said: “The festive offering of events across Lisburn and Castlereagh is exciting. We have festive workshops, musical events, movies, pantomimes, light trails, competitions, superheroes, markets and so much more to help get you in the Christmas mood. There will also be lots of opportunities to meet Santa at Castle Gardens.
“At this time of year, it is important we reflect on the true meaning of Christmas and think of and support those who may be facing challenges in their lives. I have been overwhelmed by the support I have received for my Mayoral charity, Action Cancer. The Christmas programme will help raise more funds for families and children dealing with cancer. I am truly grateful for your support.”
With a range of community light switch on events and the return of our ever-popular Christmas Markets in Royal Hillsborough, Dundonald and Carryduff, you can wrap up warm and get outdoors.
Our amazing Castle Gardens Light Trail will start on Friday 21 November, running daily from 4pm to 8pm until Monday 22 December, and is free to attend. It will offer live music and Christmas markets there every Wednesday to Saturday evening and Santa will be in his grotto. It is a sparkling event that is sure to be a hit with all the family.
Mayor Amanda added: “The people of Lisburn and Castlereagh help us bring Christmas to life every year. I am looking forward to meeting lots of local people as I get out and about and share in the Christmas magic. Time together with family and loved ones has never been more important. I hope everyone enjoys our 2025 Christmas programme.”
