The Council’s Local Economic Partnership (LEP) has announced a £3.51 million Economic Action Plan, marking a significant investment in the area’s future growth.

Ian Snowden, Permanent Secretary at the Department for the Economy, was welcomed to a meeting of the Partnership at Lagan Valley Island, where the new plan was officially revealed.

The 2025 – 2028 Action Plan offers a clear pathway for prosperity in Lisburn and Castlereagh. It outlines targeted support for trade expansion, innovation, decarbonisation, and property and infrastructure projects, funded by the Department for the Economy.

Councillor Claire Kemp, Regeneration and Growth Chair said: “This document was developed to support the Economy Minister’s vision for a fair, regional and green economy - one that delivers good jobs, higher productivity and balanced growth. It sets out how those priorities will be delivered locally.

“Partnership members, supported by the Department for the Economy and Invest NI, have shaped an ambitious and practical economic roadmap for Lisburn and Castlereagh.”

“We were delighted that the Permanent Secretary took the time to visit the LEP and express his thanks to the members for their support and the work done to date.”

Economy Minister Dr Caoimhe Archibald welcomed the publication of the plan for the Lisburn and Castlereagh area. The Minister said: “Regional balance is a priority for me as we work to deliver an economy where everyone shares in the benefits of prosperity.

“Local Economic Partnerships are central to this. By identifying the main barriers to local economic development in their area and by giving local stakeholders the opportunity to shape interventions to directly address their unique challenges, these Partnerships offer a practical and collaborative approach to growing the region’s local economy.”
