Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council (LCCC) is delighted to launch its Sustainability Strategy & Climate Action Plan. The strategy sets out how the council will use evidence to understand climate impacts, cut emissions, meet legal duties and take the key actions needed to adapt and thrive.

At the heart of the strategy are six key areas of action that will help the council make greener choices in everything it does. This means looking closely at how climate change is already affecting our area, planning ahead for future challenges and taking practical steps to cut emissions and protect our community for the long-term.

Alderman Owen Gawith, Chair of Environmental Services, said:

“As we raise the SDG flag today, we’re showing our commitment to building a greener, healthier future for everyone in Lisburn and Castlereagh. This new strategy is the start of that journey. It will guide the council as we strive to cut our carbon footprint, adapt to the changes we’re already seeing and work with our community to create a more sustainable place to live and work.”

LCCC knows that tackling climate change will take effort both locally and globally, and that reducing emissions year on year is essential to protect our future. By working together and taking clear action, the Council is determined to make real progress towards a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable Lisburn & Castlereagh.

The launch of the Sustainability Strategy & Climate Action Plan today, on SDG Flag Day, highlights the Council’s commitment to playing its part in this global movement for a fairer, greener world by 2030.
