The competition is part of the ‘Think Christmas, Think Lisburn & Castlereagh’ programme, an exciting, festive calendar of family fun taking place right across the council area.

Councillor John Laverty BEM, Regeneration & Growth Chairman, said: “We are delighted to launch this competition as part of our Christmas programme. There are some amazing local prizes on offer.

“We welcome the participation of city centre shoppers and hope they will enter the competition and take part in our other festive activities. These include workshops, musical events, movies, pantomimes, light trails, competitions, markets and much more!”

From Monday 4th December, shoppers can pick up an entry card from Lisburn’s Visitor Information Centre. It features clues directing them to the locations of various golden baubles hidden in the windows of businesses across the city centre.

To be in with a chance of winning one of three main prizes, the correct locations of at least six golden baubles must be identified. Each winner will then be chosen at random to receive a hamper containing delights from various city centre businesses to the value of £150.

This year we are also inviting shoppers to take a selfie or group photo at the giant golden bauble situated at Lisburn Square. Upload your pictures to social media with the tag @visitlisburncastlereagh and hashtag #TheGoldenBauble and #LC_lovesChristmas. A team from Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council will select their favourites to receive a special Christmas gift each week in the run up to the big day.

Dr Katrina Collins, owner of The Daily Apron and President of Lisburn's Chamber of Commerce, says, “We are excited to take part in Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council’s Golden Bauble Competition.

“The initiative is a fantastic way to encourage people to explore Lisburn’s city centre, enjoy the lights and visit the trail in Castle Gardens. We look forward to welcoming shoppers as they get involved in the festivities.”

The Lisburn Light Festival, which includes the Castle Gardens Light Trail, is free to attend and runs daily from 4pm to 8.30pm (last entry 8.00pm) until Friday 22nd December 2023. The trail is accompanied by live music, Santa in his grotto and a mini-Christmas market every Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening.
