Data Protection Complaint
Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council are committed to protecting your personal data and handling it fairly, lawfully, and transparently.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal data, you have the right to raise a data protection complaint. We understand that concerns can arise and we aim to deal with them quickly, resolve issues where possible, and use feedback to improve our services.
You can make a complaint where you believe your data has been:
- used incorrectly
- shared without a valid reason
- kept longer than necessary, or
- not kept secure
You may also raise concerns about access to your data, including delays or dissatisfaction with a response to a Data Subject Access Request (DSAR).
When submitting a complaint, please provide as much detail as possible, (for example, relevant dates, correspondence, and the service area involved) so that we can investigate effectively.
Once your complaint is received we will:
- acknowledge it promptly
- carry out a fair and independent review
- keep you updated of progress
This may involve reviewing records, systems, and processes, and working with the relevant service area. We aim to provide a clear outcome within a reasonable timeframe.
If an issue is identified, we will take appropriate action, which may include correcting records, improving processes, or providing additional safeguards.
If you remain dissatisfied with our response, you have the right to ask us to review the outcome. Following this internal review, or at any stage if you prefer, you can raise your concern with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s independent regulator for data protection. We will provide you with details of how to contact the ICO if needed.
We value feedback and complaints as an important part of maintaining trust and accountability. By raising a concern, you help us to ensure that personal data is handled to the highest standards.
