By law, babies born in Northern Ireland must be registered within 42 days of the birth. This is free and can be completed at any Registration Office in Northern Ireland.

Our team will contact you to book an appointment to attend our registration office at Lagan Valley Island.
If you are unable to fill the form in online, please print it out, complete by hand and return to us by emailing it to bdm.registration@lisburncastlereagh.gov.uk as an attachment. Or you can post it to Lisburn Registration Office, Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council, Island Civic Centre, Lisburn, BT27 4RL.
If you do not have access to a printer to complete your form please call us on 028 9244 7263 and we will post one to you. Once we receive your completed form we will then contact you to book an appointment.
Please ensure that all information is completed accurately as the birth registration cannot be changed once completed.
The birth of a baby can be registered by:
- the mother or father (if married to each other or in an opposite sex civil partnership or marriage with each other)
- the mother or second female partner (if in a civil partnership with each other at the time of donor insemination or fertility treatment)
- the father and mother (if unmarried)
- the mother and second female partner (if not in a civil partnership)
- grandmother
- grandfather
- uncle or aunt who has knowledge of the birth
- any person present at the birth
- any person who has charge of the child
- the occupier of the premises where the baby was born
When the birth registration is complete you will receive:
- one free short birth certificate
- an Infant Registration Card (HS123) to register with the family doctor and get a medical card
You can purchase a full birth certificate at a cost of £8 at this time.
